Preparing Home Appliances for your Removals Team

Working within domestic and commercial removals, we have encountered just about every issue you can think possible. One of the problems that our removals teams often face on moving day is that the large home appliances are not always ready to move. This can add extra stress to your moving day and more time getting moved into your new home.

Here are our top tips for getting your appliances moving day ready:

  • A few weeks before your move date start to use the food in your freezer, you don’t want all your frozen goods going to waste!

  • Defrost your fridge and freezer around one to two days before your move. Please ensure any water is removed and they are clean so that we can move them without any issues.

  • Washing machines need to be disconnected, if you able to do this yourself great news, If not the good news is that we can normally deal with basic plumbing when it comes to washing machines. Just ask our removals team to disconnect and reconnect these for you, but you will need to tell us prior to your move so we can ensure this is do-able. Don’t forget your water needs to be turned off for this process.

  • Around one week before your move, start to use the food in your fridge. Once you have done so, only refill it with items you will eat before your move (or can move with you in a cool bag)

  • Make sure that you have a gas engineer booked to disconnect any gas appliances well in advance of your move.

  • Remove all your plates and cutlery from your dishwasher, then run a clean wash to ensure the inside of the dishwasher is completely spotless. You then need to remove the loose items such as the baskets and shelves and let them dry. Then pack them away safely.

  • Any electrical items that cannot be simply unplugged will also need to be removed by an electrician.

  • If you live in a flat above the ground floor or have restrictive access to your property ensure enough space is available to get any large appliances out.

  • For a smooth move you need to create a moving home checklist. You can do this yourself, or we have Safe Movers one available for you.

We are happy to provide as much removals advice as you need to reduce your stress levels and get everything organised on your behalf. Just let us know what you need and put your removal needs in our hands.
